You may have heard you need at least 20% as a deposit to buy a home. But the market has changed and you there are plenty of ways to buy with a smaller deposit and get into the market sooner. Here are just a few:
- The First Home Guarantee Scheme allows eligible buyers to purchase with as little as a 5% deposit, without having to pay for Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI).
- Use a guarantor for your loan, like a parent or close family member. They can offer their own property as additional security for your loan helping you to borrow more and also avoid LMI.
- Buy with a partner, friend or sibling, sharing ownership and splitting the required deposit. This can be a great way to combine resources and get into the market faster (and there are some Government incentives available too!)
